Salade Is Granted Golden Slipper Ballot Exemption After Winning 2011 Pago Pago Stakes

March 29th, 2011

Salade claimed a surprise upset victory in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill Gardens last Saturday.

The previously un-raced two-year-old made his mark on horse racing in the $175,000 Pago Pago Stakes, beating the rest of the quality field by an astonishing 2.5 lengths.

The young Snitzel colt finished ahead of second place-getter Boys on Tour and third place-getter Exceed And Exalt.

Golden Archer, who was the hot favourite to win the race, finished in fourth place after tiring down the home straight.

Salade’s trainer, Bart Cummings, said his colt had not run up until now due to a minor illness, but will run in the 2011 Golden Slipper as long as he remains healthy.

“The only reason he has not run before now is that he had a bit of a cold,” Cummings said.

“And if he pulls up all right he’ll run next week.”

The barrier draw for this weekend’s Golden Slipper will be conducted at midday today.
