2014 Pago Pago Stakes Betting Preview and Tips

March 28th, 2014

A talented field of 11 has been confirmed to line up for the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens this weekend, offering punters several key chances to place a winning bet.

Having opened at an at a particularly generous quote of $4.90, talented colt Mr Cha Cha is currently featuring as outright $4.60 favourite in betting markets for 2014 Pago Pago Stakes success, ahead of Kumaon ($5), Mr Bogart ($7.50) and a three-way tie between Modoc, Klammer and Kuro, sharing the fourth line of betting at a current price of $8.

Can Mr Cha Cha maintain favouritism and win the 2014 Pago Pago Stakes, or well one of his well-back rivals cause an upset?

Mr Bogart ($7.50)

Having contested only two race starts to date, Mr Bogart has quickly risen to the challenge of the two-year-old season, finishing a competitive fifth amongst classy competition in the Ritz Cinema Handicap (1200m) on debut before claiming an unlucky second behind Valentia in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) last time out. Having drawn the ideal barrier 2, the exciting Northern Meteor colt offers punters sensational value at current $7.50 odds.

Mr Cha Cha ($4.60)

Yet to finish worse than second in three race starts to date, Mr Cha Cha was impressive when strolling home by nearly two lengths in the NBN Cannonball (1000m) on debut before finishing second behind classy stable mate Fighting Sun in the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) next time out, producing a strong turn of foot to overcome a poor jump and finish second in the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) most recently. Receiving the largest share of wagers when betting markets first opened on Wednesday, Mr Cha Cha’s price has eased slightly, at one point registering as low at $4.30.

Wilderness ($11)

Purchased for an incredible $2.4 million, Wilderness was somewhat disappointing when fourth in the VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m) in Bendigo on debut on March 15th, particularly after strolling him in a strong Canterbury Barrier trial less-than two weeks early. Trainer David Hayes was not worried by the maiden result for the Fastnet Rock colt, and believes he will be far more polished for the competitive start. Having drawn the inside barrier, Wilderness will be partnered by in-form jockey Nash Rawiller and offers punters incredible value for Pago Pago Stakes success at current $11 odds.
