Blinkers for Paceman in 2015 Pago Pago Stakes

March 11th, 2015

Paceman was disappointing when beating just one runner home in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) last time out, and trainer Peter Snowden is hopeful the addition of blinkers will go a long way towards a return to the winner’s circle in Saturday’s 2015 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m).

Having stamped his claims as a serious racing contender over the tail-end of the 2014 Spring Carnival, Paceman jumped from the gates well in the Silver Slipper first-up, and while appearing to be in prime position to strike rounding onto the final straight, was one of the first runners beaten; finishing well off the pace of eventual winner Headwater.

Having progressed to second in a Warwick Farm barrier trial on February 27th, albeit a relatively unpolished performance, Snowden is hoping the addition of blinkers and confirmation of Blue Diamond Stakes-winning jockey Damian Browne will see a return to peak condition in the 2015 Pago Pago Stakes.

“You can’t fault his work and his work has been very strong,” Snowden said.

“He will have blinkers on, on Saturday and D Browne to ride, so hopefully he can weave some magic.”

Taking out a strong barrier trial at Randwick prior to his racing debut in October, Paceman immediately announced his racing arriving when jogging home to win the Appin Plate (1100m) by a comfortable length over talented company at Rosehill on November 15th.

Appearing primed for a racing return when running second in a Warwick Farm trial on February 9th, an attempt on the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) appears the most likely target for Paceman if successful on Saturday. is currently offering the best odds on all Flemington races this weekend, including the 2015 Pago Pago Stakes!
